of General Studies and in accordance with the standards established for the different levels, students will demonstrate, through a variety of forms of assessment, mastery of the following competencies:<\/p><ol><li>Apply interactive oral communication skills effectively in a variety of situations.<\/li><li>Understand when reading literary and non-literary texts.<\/li><li>Interpret and analyze literary and non-literary texts of the different disciplines showing an understanding of:<ul><li>the modes of writing (descriptive, argumentative and narrative) and methods of development (illustration, comparison \/ contrast and cause \/ effect);<\/li><li>the main ideas implicit and explicit in the text, connections, between ideas and the author&#8217;s purpose;<\/li><li>literary resources such as sensory images, figurative language, irony and symbolism.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Evaluate the relevance and validity of information in literary and non-literary texts of various disciplines:<ul><li>evaluate sources of information;<\/li><li>differentiate between facts and opinions;<\/li><li>recognize tone;<\/li><li>use different ways to analyze a text.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Critically examine aesthetic, ethical, humanistic and cultural values \u200b\u200bin literary works representative of the different genres and sources, from the classical to the contemporary, including the Caribbean.<\/li><li>Express ideas in written form with clarity, precision, coherence, unity and logic to:<ul><li>integrate experiences and knowledge acquired in the formulation of ideas;<\/li><li>apply specific organizational principles;<\/li><li>select and use appropriate strategies and methods for the development of a topic according to the purpose and readership;<\/li><li>use a variety of well-constructed sentences.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Identify problems (social, political, ethical, aesthetic) and seek solutions to them through research and \/ or literary creation.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-01c92e5\" data-id=\"01c92e5\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Al completar los cursos de ingl\u00e9s del componente de Estudios Geneales en la Facultad de Estudios Generales y conforme a los est\u00e1ndares establecidos para los diferentes niveles, los estudiantes demostrar\u00e1n, a trav\u00e9s de una variedad de formas de evaluaci\u00f3n, dominio de las siguientes competencias:<\/p><ol><li>Aplicar destrezas de comunicaci\u00f3n oral interactivas de forma efectiva en una variedad de situaciones.<\/li><li>Compreder al leer textos literarios y no literarios.<\/li><li>Interpretar y an\u00e1lizar textos literarios y no literarios de las diversas disciplinas mostrando un entendimiento de:<ul><li>los modos de redacci\u00f3n (ej. descriptivo, argumentativo y narrativo ) y los m\u00e9todos de desarrollo (ej. ilustraci\u00f3n, comparaci\u00f3n\/ contraste y causa\/efecto);<\/li><li>las ideas principales impl\u00edcitas y expl\u00edcitas en el texto, conexiones, entre ideas y prop\u00f3sito del autor;<\/li><li>los recursos literarios tales como im\u00e1genes sensoriales, lenguaje figurado, iron\u00eda y simbolismo.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Evaluar la relevancia y validez de la informaci\u00f3n en textos literarios y no-literarios de diversas disciplinas:<ul><li>examinar la fuente de informaci\u00f3n;<\/li><li>diferenciar entre hechos y opiniones;<\/li><li>reconocer tono;<\/li><li>utilizar diversos modos de analizar un texto.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Examinar cr\u00edticamente valores est\u00e9ticos, \u00e9ticos, human\u00edsticos y culturales en obras literarias representativas de los distintos g\u00e9neros y fuentes, desde lo cl\u00e1sico a lo contempor\u00e1neo incluyendo lo caribe\u00f1o.<\/li><li>Expresar ideas en forma escrita con claridad, precisi\u00f3n, coherencia, unidad y l\u00f3gica al:<ul><li>integrar experiencias y conocimiento adquirido en la formulaci\u00f3n de ideas;<\/li><li>aplicar principios espec\u00edficos de organizaci\u00f3n;<\/li><li>seleccionar y utilizar estrategias y m\u00e9todos apropiados para el desarrollo de un t\u00f3pico de acuerdo al prop\u00f3sito y p\u00fablico lector; y<\/li><li>utilizar una variedad de oraciones bien constru\u00eddas.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Identificar problemas (sociales, pol\u00edticos, \u00e9ticos, est\u00e9ticos) y buscar soluciones a los mismos por medio de la investigaci\u00f3n y\/o creaci\u00f3n
