Héctor J. Mercado Soucy is currently completing his PhD in Caribbean Literature (ABD) from the UPR College of Humanities’ English Department. He has been teaching at UPR-RP in the Colleges of Humanities and General Studies since August 2016. He has received positive evaluations from peers, directors, and students. He participates actively in meetings, seminars and committees, e.g. coordinator of the Academic Affairs Committee, BA thesis committee for the Honors Program, and is presently working on APPU committee for functional diversity faculty. He has been a guest lecturer online and in-person in Dominican Republic as well as locally. He has presented papers at conferences in St. Croix and Ghana and recently presented “Ecos de Homero” (10/2023) and “Ecos de Virgilio” (3/2024). He published the science fiction novel Our Legacy and is currently in the final stages of publishing the epic poem Lampíada (2025). He has also collaborated with other departments and programs such as PSAE, the University Studies for Incarcerated Individuals Program and the RISE scientific writing program.
