    Daphne Martínez is Professor in the English Department at the College of General Studies. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from New York University, an MA in Translation from University of Puerto Rico, an MS in English Education from Syracuse University and a BA in English literature from the University of the Sacred Heart. She has taught for 40 years, including courses at multiple levels and in the Honors Program. Daphne has been at UPR for almost 26 years and has served on the Personnel and Curriculum Committees as well as on other committees. Her research and publications focus on teaching writing to second language students, portfolio-based assessment and nineteenth century Puerto Rican educators. Currently, she directs the federally funded Student Support Services Program, supporting first-generation, low-income, and disabled students. In her free time, she translates academic articles from Spanish to English.
