Vision and Mission<\/strong><\/h5>

The English Department\u00a0<\/span>of the College of General Studies<\/span>\u00a0cultivates the formation of reflective, critical, and creative\u00a0<\/span>students<\/span>\u00a0who mobilize English as a vehicle to understand, analyze, and contribute meaningfully to society as responsible and informed global citizens.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

To achieve this vision, our mission is to<\/span>\u00a0offer English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses\u00a0<\/span>that prepare students for the demands of academic discourse while meeting them at their current proficiency levels and supporting their individual language development.\u00a0 Recognizing that English is a foreign language for most of our students, we work to develop transdisciplinary critical thinking and effective communication through instruction that emphasizes the contextual use of language and the interdependence of all four language domains.\u00a0 Reading, writing, speaking, and listening are approached as interconnected practices essential for academic success and active civic participation in a constantly evolving world.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As part of the General Education curriculum, our courses connect language learning with diverse areas of knowledge \u2013including the humanities, natural and social sciences, technology, and community-based knowledge\u2013 to foster deep engagement with both local and global concerns.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Through transdisciplinary inquiry, dialogue, and collaboration, students are empowered to use English not only as a tool for communication but as a means to explore ideas, interrogate dominant narratives, and build interconnected understanding of language and knowledge.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Visi\u00f3n y Misi\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h5>

El Departamento de Ingl\u00e9s de la Facultad de Estudios Generales cultiva la formaci\u00f3n de estudiantes reflexivos, cr\u00edticos y creativos que movilizan el ingl\u00e9s como veh\u00edculo para comprender, analizar y contribuir de manera significativa a la sociedad como ciudadanos y ciudadanas globales, responsables e informados.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Para alcanzar esta visi\u00f3n, nuestra misi\u00f3n es ofrecer cursos de Ingl\u00e9s con Fines Acad\u00e9micos (English for Academic Purposes, EAP), que preparan al estudiantado para las exigencias del discurso acad\u00e9mico, a la vez que se les apoya seg\u00fan su nivel de competencia ling\u00fc\u00edstica y se promueve su desarrollo individual. Reconociendo que el ingl\u00e9s es una lengua extranjera para la mayor\u00eda de nuestros estudiantes, trabajamos para desarrollar el pensamiento cr\u00edtico transdisciplinario y la comunicaci\u00f3n efectiva mediante una ense\u00f1anza que enfatiza el uso contextual del idioma y la interdependencia de las cuatro competencias ling\u00fc\u00edsticas. La lectura, la escritura, la expresi\u00f3n oral y la comprensi\u00f3n auditiva se abordan como pr\u00e1cticas interconectadas, esenciales para el \u00e9xito acad\u00e9mico y la participaci\u00f3n c\u00edvica activa en un mundo en constante transformaci\u00f3n.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Como parte del curr\u00edculo de Educaci\u00f3n General, nuestros cursos vinculan el aprendizaje del idioma con diversas \u00e1reas del conocimiento \u2014incluyendo las humanidades, las ciencias naturales y sociales, la tecnolog\u00eda y saberes comunitarios\u2014 fomentando una participaci\u00f3n profunda con asuntos tanto locales como globales.
